Who We Serve
Providing life-saving care to Haiti's most vulnerable children.
Children and Young Adults Living with Chronic Illness in Haiti
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, where many families survive on only a few dollars per day and access to consistent healthcare is extremely limited. Children living with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart conditions, and other long-term illnesses face enormous barriers to care. Without reliable treatment and monitoring, these conditions can quickly become life-threatening.

A Gap in the Healthcare System
In the years following the 2010 earthquake, international aid helped expand emergency and short-term medical services across Haiti. Yet children with chronic illnesses have often been overlooked. Most families cannot afford medications, travel long distances to seek care, or find providers equipped to manage complex conditions. As a result, many children receive fragmented treatment—or none at all.
Families Facing Daily Hardship
The families we serve often struggle to meet basic needs such as food, transportation, and school fees. These challenges make managing a chronic illness even more difficult. Many children would be unable to continue school or receive life-saving care without additional support.

Our Commitment
Kay Mackenson Clinic provides a medical home for children living with chronic disease—offering consistent treatment, medications, education, and long-term follow-up. Our team works closely with families to ensure children receive the care they need to live healthier, fuller lives. Through this model of care, we are helping build a future where chronic illness is no longer a barrier to survival or opportunity.
